Promoting Global Sustainability

by addressing the environmental issues that affect the world today. Together, we can achieve a sustainable, renewable planet.

The Importance of Water Sustainability

“Water water everywhere, but not a drop to drink”, is an age old saying that literally translates to how there is water everywhere but one day there might not be any water for us if we keep cutting down trees and wasting all resources. Water is very important in our lives and we need it for doing all activities, from brushing out teeth to cooking food. Therefore it is essential for people to be aware of its value and use it in limited quantities. And if one has to wash only a few vessels, then they are advised to wash them using their hand instead of loading the dish water, which would use as much water if the washer was fully loaded. If we were to control usage of water in all our tasks, we will be able to preserve it and sustain it in the same level so that we don’t have to worry in the future.

New businesses and apartment complexes are being erected everyday, and these are done clearing plots where there were trees earlier. Also there are places where lakes that have dried up have made way for a shopping mall. Similarly, if people keep bringing in new buildings and offices, there would be no way of saving water or conserving it. Demand for fresh water is increasing with every passing day and the water levels across the globe are coming down and there are signs of stress on all water resources. Companies and government bodies are encouraged to come up with new strategies for water sustainability so they won’t have to buy water in future years.

There are places where ponds and lakes were plenty, but today they are all arid lands with nothing but sand on it. These are all because there have been no rains and water has dried up instead of being conserved. It is very important to retain the position of water as one day we might be faced with nothing but draught and dry weather, when people would still be living around the world, except in poverty unlike now. If every household was to take it upon themselves to watch how much water they use, they would help in sustaining water levels everywhere. As they say little drops make a mighty ocean, a valuable lesson that needs to be imparted to children so they become aware from that tender age.

With water sustainability, there should be control in economic development of a county. And new projects that are welcomed into a country or state will have to be done making sure no water land is being destroyed to construct the same. Only then, will the water sustainability project be a success. Water is an element that we cannot do without and our lives would come to a stand still if we woke up one day to discover there was not a drop of water. Therefore, make sure to not waste water or use more than necessary at home and outside.

The Global Water Crisis

Water is vital to the survival of all known life forms. Water crisis is the state of the world’s water resources in relation to human demand. Global scarcity of usable water and water pollution are the major aspects of water crisis. A lot of people around the world do not have access to clean potable water, and the numbers are growing.

Around the world, 1.1 billion people are living without clean drinking water; another 2.6 billion people do not have proper sanitation, this results to death all over due to water borne diseases.

Home Water Conservation Tips

Water is essential to life and that is why conserving water must concern every one of us. We must use water wisely so that future generations will still have fresh water to enjoy. Water conservation has a lot of benefits. By saving water you also save energy because the facilities that pump, deliver and treat water also consume a significant amount of fuel. By saving water you help these facilities conserve electricity and energy.

Aquatic Ecosystems

How does water quality affect aquatic ecosystems?

An ecosystem is a community of organisms - plants, animals, fungi and bacteria - interacting with one another and with the environment in which they live. Protecting aquatic ecosystems is in many ways as important as maintaining water quality, for the following reasons:

* Aquatic ecosystems are an integral part of our environment. They need to be maintained if the environment is to continue to support people. World conservation strategies stress the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and genetic diversity.
